St. Louis, MO – In tough economic times recession-weary Americans often turn to sports for a brief escape from the harsh realities of life in a global economy.

But alongside the altruistic nobility of competitive sport are serious economic stakes.

St. Louis, Missouri just hosted the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, providing that city with its own personal stimulus package.

Despite the hard times organizers of the "Midsummer Classic" are more committed than ever to ginning up revenue through an ever-expanding roster of events and sponsorship arrangements.

ST. Louis Public Radio's Adam Allington has more on the changing business of the All Star Game.
