St. Louis – Robert Carlson, St. Louis' next Roman Catholic archbishop, will meet other religious and community leaders at an evening prayer service tonight at the Cathedral Basilica.
Carlson will become the ninth Archbishop of St. Louis at a special Mass Wednesday.
Carlson most recently served as the bishop of Saginaw, Mich. Before that, he headed the diocese of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Pope Benedict XVI announced Carlson's new assignment in April. He succeeds Archbishop Raymond Burke, who now heads the Vatican Supreme Court.
