St. Louis, MO – Republican Senator Norm Coleman says he has no plans to abandon his legal battle to win reelection over Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota.
Coleman gave the keynote speech at the Conservative Heartland Conference in St. Louis on Thursday.
Franken currently has a narrow 312 vote majority from last November's general election.
Earlier this week the Minnesota Supreme Court heard Coleman's argument to count 4400 ballots that were cast in the wrong jurisdiction.
Coleman says if those votes are counted he would live with the outcome.
"In the end there are 4400 absentee ballots I want counted and I believe the constitution requires them to be counted, I believe equal protection requires them to be counted. Whether you votes count should depend on where you live," said Coleman.
If Coleman loses his case with the state supreme court he may then appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
A win by Franken would give Democrats a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority in the Senate.
