Jefferson City, MO – A Cole County judge has upheld the language on a proposed ballot initiative that would bar public funding for abortions and embryonic stem cell research.
The group Missouri Roundtable for Life is sponsoring the ballot question. They sued Secretary of State Robin Carnahan for the wording her office used, claiming it would bias voters against the measure.
But Circuit Court Judge Patricia Joyce disagreed.
Laura Egerdal is spokesperson for the Secretary of State's office.
"This language is written to be fair and impartial, so that the people of Missouri can clearly understand what they're voting on, and a judge upheld that our language was in fact fair and impartial," Egardal said.
Missouri Roundtable for Life says it's considering an appeal.
