St. Louis – Major repair work will begin this week on several overpasses along I-55 near St. Louis.
MODOT engineer Deanna Venker said road crews will close the Lafayette bridge Tuesday.
"We'll be doing some rehab work on the bridge and also painting the structure," Venker said. "We will have to close the bridge to traffic, but we will have pedestrian access open."
Venker said the Lafayette overpass is scheduled to reopen in early June.
Other bridges along I-55 scheduled to be repaired include the Utah St. bridge, which will close next Monday. The Pestalozzi Street bridge near the brewery will close April 9.
Two years ago, a sidewalk fell onto the freeway from the Delor Street overpass, but Venker said that bridge and all the others like it were immediately reinforced.
She said the repairs starting Tuesday will involve painting and the replacement of driving surfaces.
