St. Louis – A three-alarm fire destroyed a building at the old Pevely Dairy complex at Grand and Chouteau in south St. Louis Sunday. The blaze began just after noon.
The Prairie Farms dairy company owns Pevely, and shut down the complex in the fall. The historic headquarters building was not damaged.
Demolition crews were working inside when the fire began. Investigators are still trying to determine a cause.
Firefighters said cork insulation in the building made the blaze tough to put out.
