Fort Leonard Wood soldier dies of meningitis

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – A soldier at Fort Leonard Wood has died of meningitis and another is in stable condition.

Army officials announced the cases in a news release Sunday but released few details and did not identify either infected soldier. On Monday a spokesman said there was no additional information.

The Army said both soldiers came down with non-contagious forms of meningitis, and there is no known connection between the two.

The first soldier died after being diagnosed on Feb. 5. The second case involves a 28-year-old soldier in initial entry training who was diagnosed Friday.

That soldier is in stable condition, but the Army says the illness is very serious.
