Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's revenues are forecast to grow during the next fiscal year, but only by one percent.
That's the consensus reached by Democratic Governor Jay Nixon and the Republican House and Senate budget chairmen.
Scott Holste is Nixon's Press Secretary.
"When the governor presents his budget to the General Assembly next week, it will be based on that estimate of $7.7 billion in revenue," Holste said.
That budget presentation will be the centerpiece of Nixon's State of the State Address, scheduled for Tuesday, January 27th, at 7:PM. KWMU will carry the address live.
Missouri is also facing a $261 million shortfall in revenue for the remainder of the 2009 fiscal year.
Earlier estimates showed the state taking in more than $8.2 billion in tax revenues for Fiscal Year 2009, but the new numbers show the state receiving just over $7.6 billion.
"Obviously we knew that there were going to be a number of economic challenges...working together with legislative leaders; we've got a clearer picture of just what the challenge is," Holste said.
