St. Louis schools pay private company $650,000 for facilities plan

By Adam Allington, KWMU

St. Louis – The St. Louis Public School District appears to be gearing up for another round of school closures.

The district has hired MGT of America, a national education consultancy group. MGT will be paid $650,000 to develop a 10-year master plan for the district's facilities needs.

Bill Carnes, a consultant for MGT, says they their plan will not be presented to the district until the end of January, but school closings are likely.

"It seems to be common knowledge that this district, in order to be successful at delivering educational programs, really needs to be more lean and mean," Carnes said."

The consultants are conducting nine public forums through December 17th.
