St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis is not among the cities that will host the NCAA's Final Four men's basketball championship through 2016.
The NCAA committee made the announcement Wednesday.
St. Louis was among 10 finalists for the championships between 2012 and 2016.
Despite that chair of the NCAA basketball committee Mike Clive says St. Louis has responded well to some of the issues that arose when the city hosted the event in 2005.
"They've expanded the perimeter of the facility," Clive said. "There's labor harmony; there's improvements downtown; there's great pride in being a championship city. The site visit was well-done. It's got very strong host institutions with some very fine people there in St. Louis."
The committee chose New Orleans, Atlanta, North Texas, Indianapolis, and Houston.
St. Louis and the four other cities passed over by the committee will host preliminaries instead.
