St. Louis – The last of the eight people injured Saturday in a chemical spill at an East St. Louis plant is out of the hospital.
The victims were working at the Ro-Corp plant in East St. Louis when a drum of chemical powder broke open while being loaded.
Authorities say the chemical was nitroaniline, a highly toxic material that can cause serious breathing problems and even death.
East St. Louis officials said the spill was contained and posed no threat to the community.
Cleanup at the site is expected to wrap up by Wednesday.
Earlier reports said two people died because of the accident, but that information turned out to be wrong.
The accident forced two St. Louis area emergency rooms to close for decontamination after several of the victims sought treatment.
