Granite City, Ill. – A Metro East high school is mourning the loss of an honor student who died after being thrown from the hood of a friend's car, just days before his scheduled graduation.
Eighteen-year-old Granite City High School senior Matthew Evans died late Wednesday at a St. Louis hospital.
Evans was injured when police say he playfully belly flopped onto the hood of a friend's passing car.
When the driver slammed on the brakes, Evans fell off and hit his head on the pavement.
Evans was scheduled to graduate Friday.
