St. Louis, MO – Thousands of Ameren UE customers are still in the dark after severe storms downed trees and power lines in St. Louis.
A wind advisory was in effect for much of yesterday, with sustained winds averaging 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 50 mph in some areas. As of noon today, around 5,000 customers were still without electricity, mostly throughout north St. Louis County. Spokesman Tim Fox says he expects that almost all customers will have their power restored by the end of the day.
Ameren officials said 51,000 homes and businesses lost power at the height of the storm. Customers are advised to stay clear of any downed power lines.
