St. Louis – The African Methodist Episcopal Church will hold its convention in St. Louis this summer despite boycott pleas by many African-Americans unhappy with Mayor Francis Slay.
The A.M.E. Church is the oldest black denomination in North America. More than 40,000 delegates, church leaders and others will meet here in July.
The church claims 2 million members in three dozen countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Leaders meet every four years to enact laws, assign bishops, and review policies on social justice issues.
