St. Louis, MO – Supporters of Missouri death row inmate Reginald Clemons today marked the 15th anniversary of his conviction by maintaining his innocence.
Clemons is awaiting execution for the 1991 murders of two sisters who were thrown off of an abandoned Mississippi River bridge at St. Louis.
At a news conference today, ACLU racial justice manager Redditt Hudson maintained that Clemons confessed after being beaten by police. Hudson also claims prosecutorial misconduct and ineffective defense counsel played roles in the conviction.
More than 10,000 signatures in support of Clemons have been gathered and will be submitted to Governor Matt Blunt if an execution date is set.
