St. Louis – St. Louis police dispatchers are back to work after a strong odor forced them to evacuate the downtown dispatch center Saturday night.
The department activated a backup center while authorities dealt with the problem.
Ten workers were treated for sore throats and difficulty breathing.
Police said the dispatchers returned to the main center early Sunday.
Captain Derrick Phillips of the St. Louis Fire Department said the odor came from chemical solvents spilled into the sewer system. He said the source was probably a metal plating plant in the Central West End.
