Caruthersville, Mo. – Authorities in the Bootheel community of Caruthersville have seized eight horses and 23 dogs in an animal abuse investigation.
The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department and the Humane Society seized the horses Friday.
The animals were subsisting on muddy water and wood. Three were found dead of malnutrition and illness.
Authorities also seized 23 dogs from a home in Caruthersville. Some were being kept in small crates in a house covered with feces.
No charges have been filed yet.
