Springfield, Mo. – Republican Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder made it official Friday that he's dropping out of the Missouri governor's race.
Kinder announced his decision to hundreds of Republicans at their annual Lincoln Days conference in Springfield. He says he plans to run for re-election instead.
Kinder was the first candidate to enter the race following Governor Blunt's surprise announcement that he won't seek re-election this year.
Kinder's departure leaves only State Treasurer Sarah Steelman and Congressman Kenny Hulshof in the Republican primary race.
Attorney General Jay Nixon is the only Democratic candidate.
