St. Louis – In St. Louis City Proposition S passed with a 55 percent of the vote.
The measure will raise the city's sales tax by a half cent to help fund police and fire department pensions, hire more police officers, and give police and firefighters raises.
When it goes into effect, the sales tax will be the highest in the state at 8.241 percent.
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said he's thrilled that it passed.
"The voters of St. Louis in pretty good fashion supported Proposition S which means that they supported our efforts and they're supporting the police officers and firefighters of the city of St. Louis," Slay said.
Some opponents of the measure had argued the city granted too many tax concessions for the new stadium and Ballpark Village.
