More than a million Missouri voters expected to take part in presidential primaries

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is expecting a larger-than-normal turnout among both Democrats and Republicans in Missouri's presidential primaries on Super Tuesday.

"We've gotten estimates from the local election officials that they think it might be around 28 percent of Missouri registered voters. That would be over a million people casting ballots, and that'd be double what the turnout was in 2004," Carnahan said.

Missouri's party primaries are open, which means if you voted for a Democrat the last time, you can vote for a Republican this time, and vice-versa.

"You can just state your preference in party when you walk in the door into your election place and tell them which ballot you'd like to vote on, and you can change your mind from the last time you voted in 2004 or 2000," Carnahan said.

Voters will need to bring a voter registration card or some other form of I.D., such as a driver's license, birth certificate or student I.D.

You can also bring a bank statement or utility bill, as long as it has your home address printed on it.

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
