East St. Louis, Ill. – An East St. Louis police detective has been disciplined as a result of allegedly being caught drunk behind the wheel of an unmarked police car in Belleville.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners has disciplined, but did not fire detective Ricky Perry.
Lieutenant Bobby Cole says the department is not discussing the nature of the discipline because it's a personnel matter. But Chief Michael Baxton says Perry is no longer allowed to take his unmarked squad car home.
Authorities say Belleville police found Perry apparently asleep at the wheel of the car one morning in September.
After he was awakened he reportedly tried to drive away, but was stopped.
