Chicago – An appeals court has ordered former Illinois governor George Ryan to report to federal prison by Wednesday.

Ryan's attorneys have asked the U.S. Supreme Court that he be allowed to remain free on bond while the court decides if it will hear his case.

This second, emergency request to the high court is a response to yesterday's Seventh Circuit opinion.

Appellate judges called this the end of the line for Ryan's appeals process.

He has lived at home since his 2006 conviction on fraud and racketeering charges.

Unless the Supreme Court overrides Wednesday's ruling, Ryan will have to to report to prison November 7th.

Even if the Court hears his appeal, it may say he should start serving his sentence anyway.

A few appeals court judges hope that won't happen. They say the 73 year old Ryan shouldn't go to jail because he didn't get a fair trial.
