St. Louis – All of Interstate 64 between Ballas Road and Interstate 170 will be shut down for a year starting Wednesday, January 2.
Missouri transportation officials announced the official date of the closure Monday.
It's part of a $535 million overhaul of the freeway that began this year.
The western end of the construction zone will be closed for all of next year.
In 2009, MODOT will close the eastern end, from I-170 to Kingshighway.
MODOT engineer Ed Hassinger said motorists should spend the next two months figuring out alternate routes.
"The preparation has been done," Hassinger said. "A lot of people are making the necessary changes. But be aware, before rush hour on January 2, we will close the west end of the corridor."
Hassinger said road crews are in the process of re-striping parts of Interstates 44 and 70 to add extra lanes.
