St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony LaRussa will be back for at least two more seasons with the redbirds.

LaRussa is the winningest manager the Cardinals have ever had and third on baseball's all-time wins list.

But, 2007 was a difficult season that included a losing record, the drunken-driving death of reliever Josh Hancock and La Russa's own DUI arrest in March.

LaRussa said he couldn't think about his future with the team until after the regular season.

"When that was over man I think we were all toast," said LaRussa.

"We had to get away from it and then you start understanding the strength of the relationships in the clubhouse and in the organization and if people still want you to be part of it then you excited to be part of it."

The 63-year old LaRussa says he could imagine starting again with another team but would prefer to keep the relationships he has built with the Cardinals over the years.

He says two more years with St. Louis is a good place to start.

"Well it's definitely not three, because that's just looking too far forward for a senior citizen just one is the wrong message because from spring training on it's the same deal and two it lets the players know that...I'm back."

La Russa's name had surfaced as a possible replacement for the Yankee's Joe Torre but La Russa denied interest in the Yankees job.
