Festus, MO – A 46-year-old Illinois man was on his way to work Monday morning when his Piper 28 plane crashed near Festus Memorial Airport.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch identified the pilot as Anthony Watts of Carterville, Illinois.
The newspaper cited a family friend who answered the phone at his residence. The woman said Watts was a registered nurse anesthetist at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and had been flying for a little more than two years.
A St. Louis University Hospital spokeswoman could not provide a condition report.
He was the only person on board the plane when it crashed Monday morning about three miles southeast of Festus near Selma Farm Road.
