Jefferson City, MO. – The newest member of the state Ethics Commission says it should not be deciding whether politicians must refund certain campaign contributions.
Ken Legan says he helped draft legislation creating the Ethics Commission when he was a lawmaker more than 15 years ago. Now he's one of the six commissioners.
Legan says lawmakers never intended for the commission to have to settle an issue like the one the Supreme Court passed to it earlier this week.
The court said the Ethics Commission should decide whether politicians must refund contributions received in excess of the state's recently re-imposed contribution limits.
Legan says that's a decision the court should have made.
