Springfield, Ill. – Gov. Rod Blagojevich is asking Illinois lawmakers to pass another one-month budget to keep state government operating.
The governor and legislative leaders haven't been able to agree on a budget for the full year. The General Assembly has gone a record 57 days into overtime.
The Democratic governor issued a proclamation this (Fri.) morning that calls legislators into special session this weekend. It asks them to pass a budget extension to keep the state running through August.
Officials used a similar budget extension for the month of July.
But one of the governor's closest allies is giving the idea a thumbs-down. Senate President Emil Jones says he's not interested in another temporary budget. He wants to come up with a real budget.
