Valley Park vote - again - to repeal immigration law

By KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Another showdown appears to be brewing over immigration in the St. Louis suburb of Valley Park.

Aldermen Monday night once again voted to repeal language that would make it a crime for landlords to rent to illegals. That language is currently not being enforced because of a judge's order.

Mayor Jeffrey Whittaker vetoed the aldermen's last effort to repeal the language; aldermen at that time were then unable to override that veto.

Critics of the immigration law say they expect Whittaker to veto this effort, as well, and say they're working to sway enough aldermen for an override.

The repeal passed 5-3 on Monday night; six votes would be needed to override a veto.
