Urban garden approved for Gateway Mall

By Adam Allington, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – A new public garden located in downtown St. Louis got final approval today by the city's Board of Aldermen.

The 20-million dollar project will span two blocks in front of the AT&T Buildings.

The garden is part of a master plan to develop the gateway mall from the Arch up past Union Station.

Phyllis Young is the Alderwoman for downtown St. Louis.

"Oh it's been around forever and it's gone through all kinds of renovations and new concepts," said Young.

"We are once again in the process of planning it, but here's something that's actually going to happen."

The garden will feature plant selections by the Missouri Botanical Garden as well as sculptures and a fountain.

Ground is expected to be broken next spring.
