St. Louis, MO – Officials at Webster University say they're working to further improve their computer network, after a virus wreaked havoc on the Webster Groves campus for most of the spring.
It was only a month ago that Kristi Evans could really say the virus that hit in February was finally gone. Evans, who works in the Information Services office, says it was unprecedented for Webster.
By the end of the virus's first day in the network, 90% of all computers were infected. It also took a week just to create a fix for it.
"I was very nervous about students still spreading the virus," said Evans. "So I think once we felt fairly confident that we had touched any student computer that could be infected, that I felt comfortable saying the virus is no longer in the network.'"
Evans says her office is working to make it harder to access public computers and portals. But most improvements should be internal, which means students shouldn't notice any big changes when they return in August.
