Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Commissioner of Education Kent King has denied an appeal by the St. Louis Public School District to reverse the state's decision to de-certify the city district.
In a letter to St. Louis Schools Superintendent Diana Bourisaw, King said the district failed to produce new information proving that the board's initial decision was wrong.
The school district claimed that it had met state requirements for both "vocational class enrollment" and "graduate placement".
In both cases, the state claims that adequate progress is not being made under any interpretation of the data.
Control of the district is scheduled to be handed to a transitional school board on Friday.
The public school board has filed a motion for a temporary restraining order to stave off the handover until after legal objections are heard.
