St. Louis – Express Scripts cut the ribbon Friday on its new headquarters building at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
The pharmacy benefit management firm is the largest company in the country based on a college campus.
UM-St. Louis Chancellor Thomas George said it was a challenge to combine the university's culture with that of a fast-paced company.
"What it really came down to was a willingness on both sides to adjust to a different kind of culture," George said. "So when it came to land acquisition, we did things in one month or two months that normally we would have deliberated over two years on."
Express will also partner with the university on research projects, and offer internships to UM-St. Louis students.
Express Scripts is getting more than $20 million in tax breaks to keep its headquarters in Missouri.
