St. Louis, MO – State Representative Sam Page is formally announcing Monday what had been well-known in political circles: That he'll run for Lieutenant Governor next year.

The Creve Coeur Democrat is one of the few medical doctors in the General Assembly. He's been a state representative for five years and has worked a lot on health care issues.

During this spring's session, Page was an outspoken critic of Governor Matt Blunt's Missouri HealthNet proposal-which ultimately passed. "The Blunt/Kinder administration has a very different opinion on what to do with folks that live in poverty," Page said, in an interview.

"I think taking away basic health care from someone who lives in poverty or who has serious disabilities is wrong."

Page says Missouri HealthNet doesn't go far enough to restore thousands of people cut from Medicaid in 2005.
