Springfield, Ill. – Bicyclists are being invited to help break in new sections of historic Route 66 in Illinois this Saturday. Route 66 was once the major highway from Chicago to Los Angeles.
The bike ride encompasses any of 14 sections of the Route 66 Trail which covers a distance from the Mississippi River near St. Louis to downtown Chicago.
Bicyclists will ride one of 14 legs of the trail, simultaneously covering the entire distance throughout the state. They will then converge at six different Route 66 towns, including Edwardsville and Staunton, where ceremonies will be held at noon.
