Flooding wreaks havoc with train service

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – The Union Pacific Railroad says many of its tracks are out of service in central and western Missouri because of flooding.

Spokesman James Barnes says freight trains between Kansas City and St. Louis have been delayed a day or more because they've had to travel hundreds of miles out of their way.

"There were reroutes through Oklahoma, down through Texas and some of the other Southern states and then back north as routes were available," Barnes said.

The Amtrak passenger rail service uses Union Pacific's tracks.

People riding the St. Louis - Kansas City route will have to take a bus west of Jefferson City.

The Missouri river is expected to crest nearly seven feet above flood stage at the state capitol Saturday, and six feet above Monday in St. Charles.
