Jefferson City, MO. – As flood waters continue to plague cities and towns along the Missouri River, Governor Matt Blunt is calling for the formation of damage assessment teams.
He says the flood of 2007 has been very disruptive:
"There've been several hundred evacuations at least at one time or another, (from) people's homes, at least 25 rescues by the water patrol; gives you a sense of how significant this is, significant crop damage across the state," Blunt said.
The damage assessment teams will be sent to 17 counties along the Missouri River.
Conditions are improving at Jefferson City. The predicted crest has dropped by 3 feet, which means the city's airport may only see minimal flooding.
And State transportation officials now say that U.S. Highway 63 is no longer in any danger of being flooded.
