St. Louis, MO – Some towns along the river got more good news Wednesday, as forecasters further downgraded their flood predictions.
The river is still above flood stage throughout the state, it just appears it won't rise as high as first thought in some places. The more than 20 levees in western Missouri that overran are part of the reason why the east will be spared, as the water is spread out to larger areas.
St. Charles is now expected to crest at 33 feet on Tuesday, which is far below the level at which downtown riverfront businesses flood.
"It's certainly a sigh of relief for those businesses," said Rod Zerr, with the county's emergency management office. "Based on these projections, certainly there'll be water entering into Frontier Park but at this point I believe that most of those businesses - if not all of them - will be safe."
Zerr still expects a few parts of Highway 94 to flood, near Matson and West Alton. But Zeer also expects no structural damage at all in St. Charles County.
