Dyslexic death doctor dumped

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, Mo. – The state of Missouri says it will not continue using the services of a dyslexic surgeon to oversee any future executions.

Dr. Alan Doerhoff of Jefferson City came under criticism in the last year over disclosures that he occasionally altered the amount of anesthetic given to condemned prisoners.

Attorney General Jay Nixon informed an appeals court of the decision in a recent letter. However it's uncertain whether the statement is legally binding.

The court is reviewing the state's execution procedures. Convicted murderer Michael Taylor is appealing his death sentence, claiming lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment.
