GOP expects Democratic slow-down this week in MO Senate

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – The rest of the 2007 legislative session might be a rocky one for the Missouri Senate.

Relations between Senate Democrats and Republicans have been strained by the fight over the MOHELA bill.

Majority Floor Leader Charlie Shields says Democrats may try to retaliate this week: "I would anticipate the reaction will be to slow the process down."

Minority Leader Maida Coleman didn't comment on that possible tactic, but did say she'll do all she can to make sure Democrats have a voice.

The State Senate is scheduled to take up the state budget this week, and hold a final vote on the plan to use MOHELA funds for college construction projects.
