State office building in Springfield, Ill. locked down

By Sean Crawford, IL Public Radio

Springfield, Ill. – The building where Illinoisans' state tax returns are processed was locked down yesterday after a suspicious powder was found. It turned out to be nothing.

It happened at the Department of Revenue's Willard Ice Building in Springfield.

Authorities kept the building in on lockdown for nearly three hours Thursday, after an envelope containing a suspicious powder was opened. Tests were done on-site to determine it was nothing harmful.

The envelope also contained a state tax return in a building that's extra busy this week because of the tax deadline. Mike Klemens, a Revenue Department spokesman, says employees pretty much just kept working during the matter.
