Maag drops defamation lawsuit

By AP/KWMU

Springfield, Ill. – Former judge and Illinois Supreme Court candidate Gordon Maag has dropped his $110 million defamation lawsuit over a 2004 campaign flier.

Maag asked a judge last week to dismiss the suit, five months after an appellate court tossed out his case.

Maag had claimed his record was distorted by various groups in handbills distributed before his loss to Republican Lloyd Karmeier in 2004. In that election, Maag also failed to retain his seat on the state appellate court in Mount Vernon.

Their campaigning broke national spending records and drew cries for election reform.
