Operation Brightside celebrates 25th

(KWMU)

St. Louis, MO. – Drivers may have noticed a big yellow smiley face and the number 25 along Interstate 44 this week.

The daffodils smile over 44's eastbound lane just before the exit for Interstate 55.

It's not garden graffiti.

Operation Brightside, the not for profit that works to clean and green up the city, is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Mary Lou Green is executive director.

"We thought what more appropriate way to let people know that we're 25 than with one of our most recognizable symbols, our signature daffodils," Green said.

The group's annual campaign to clean up neighborhoods, called Project Blitz, also began last weekend.

Green says the daffodils like cool weather, so they should survive the cold snap.
