City taxpayers, write those checks to someone else

Why to St. Louis residents make out bill payments to this man? Gregory F.X. Daly
Gregory F.X. Daly is the city's new Collector of Revenue

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – People in St. Louis City will have to start writing checks for their water and tax bills to a new person.

When city dwellers pay their water bills or property taxes, they don't write their checks to the "City of St. Louis" or "St. Louis Tax Office" or anything like that.

They've written their checks to Ron Leggett. Leggett officially retired last week as the city's Collector of Revenue after St. Louisans wrote nearly $10 billion in checks to him over the past 30 years.

Now, those checks will be made out to Gregg Daly, whose first day was Monday. Daly had been as License Collector since 1998 before running for the new post last year.
