Valley Park, MO – Aldermen in the St. Louis suburb of Valley Park passed two more ordinances Monday night aimed at keeping illegal immigrants out of the community.
The bills punish landlords and businesses that rent housing to or hire illegal immigrants.
The measures come even though a judge has already blocked enforcement of two previous laws against illegal immigrants.
Valley Park's mayor says the city will keep pushing for the new laws despite $75,000 in legal expenses.
One of the new ordinances requires landlords applying for occupancy permits to provide, among other things, the tenants' countries of citizenship and relationship with other tenants. The other would deny business licenses and city contracts to firms that hire illegal immigrants.
