St. Louis, MO – The former mayor of St. Peters was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison on a federal bribery charge.

Shawn Brown, 34, also was ordered to pay $2,750 in restitution, according to U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway's office.

Brown was accused of demanding a bribe from an Arizona company that was to install and maintain speeding enforcement systems in the city.

Authorities said Brown threatened to veto the authorizing ordinance unless Redflex Traffic Systems delivered a bribe to his home.

In cooperation with law enforcement, the company prepared Brown a check for $2,750, which he later cashed. Brown, 34, pleaded guilty last October to one felony count of bribery.
