St. Louis, MO. – An eight-year old boy died in the St. Louis suburb of Shiloh, Ill. on Monday, after a car crashed through the wall of the school and struck him.
The accident happened during lunchtime at Shiloh Elementary School, just as most students had left the cafeteria for recess.
But not Ryan Wesling. He was one of just a few children still inside the cafeteria when a car came crashing through.
Ryan later died of head and chest injuries a hospital.
Two other students and the 84-year old woman driving the car were injured. Police weren't offering any theories as to how the crash could have happened.
The school is at the end of a dead-end road that leads to a circle drive for dropping off and picking up children.
Police say they hope to question the woman Tuesday.
Ryan was from nearby O'Fallon, Ill. The school houses about 300 kindergartners through fourth graders.
School remained in session Monday afternoon, although some parents took their children home early. School is back on as well Tuesday; grief counselors will be on hand and the cafeteria will be in use.
