Arts groups happy with proposed budget

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – When the Kansas City Symphony sued the state over arts funding last month, some arts organizations feared that it might put future funding at risk. But the budget put forward by the Governor last week did include the arts at the expected level.

The budget includes nearly $8 million for the Missouri Cultural Trust, the endowment that funds the Missouri Arts Council.

The lawsuit claims lawmakers have shortchanged the arts by $83 million in the past 20 years and aims to force the state to come up with the funding.

A handful of arts groups had had criticized the lawsuit.
