Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt wants to spend more money on math and science education. Blunt flew around the state on Monday to announce his plan ahead of his State of the State address Wednesday.
The governor asked lawmakers to set aside nearly $3 million to fund 100 technology-based classrooms around the state.
Blunt wants to expand an existing program that incorporates the internet and other technology into class work. He says that's vital to keeping pace with the global economy.
"If we don't focus on math and science as a priority within our education system, then we're not going to be able to compete," says Blunt.
Blunt also says he wants the state to help students pay exam fees for advanced placement math and science tests.
In addition, he's asking legislators to budget an extra million for math and science-based after school programs.
