St. Louis, MO. – About 350 Missouri Guard members are helping clear debris and checking on residents after this weekend's ice storm.

About 100 of those are in St. Charles, one of the hardest hit areas in the St. Louis region.

Governor Matt Blunt was visited Springfield and St. Charles Monday.

"This is really the largest mass-care natural disaster that we've had to deal with. This is certainly the largest sheltering mission in SEMA's (State Emergency Management Agency) history, meaning we have more people across the state in shelters than ever before," Blunt said.

Ameren says about 78,000 households in the St. Louis region are without power this evening.

A spokeswoman says they expect to have everyone on-line by late Wednesday.
