St. Louis – The Missouri Department of Transportation answered questions today from people in the business community concerned about the upcoming I-64 construction project.
When the $535 million overhaul begins in the spring the first major construction zone will be the interchange between I-170 and I-64.
That interchange will be open throughout the year but there will be some lane closures.
MoDOT Director Pete Rahn said while some work will begin this year, drivers should not need to make major changes until next year.
"It's the kind of construction that St. Louis is used to, and you'll see that ongoing in 2007," Rahn said. "The big impact will be in 2008 and 2009."
Rahn also saod MoDOT will provide $1 million in grants for businesses along the I-64 corridor. The money will be available on a competitive basis.
